Get Things Done With A Plan!

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” -Johann Wolfgang

An action plan and your to do list is different. To do lists is a list of what tasks you need to complete. Plans on the other hand will allow you to concentrate on how you will utilize your energy to complete that task. After setting goals, your plans will help you take action and reach that particular goal!

Why You Must Formulate Your Unique Strategy

After setting your goals, you will need to develop a strategy to achieve it. Your strategy needs to be organized in a logical manner. What are the tasks you need to do to get from point A to Z? You need to set your strategy to reach point B, C, D and so on until you reach point Z. Your action plan with your own unique strategy will be a powerful time management tool as it will give you more focus in finishing your tasks.

With everything organized and planned out, you will see that you will tend to get things done in a shorter time. You should prepare yourself with the proper ideas that will lead you to execute your task. To save your time and effort, organize an effective procedure, or your ‘step by step’ formula to execute a task. Your strategies to implement your action plan effectively should be relevant and follow a logical order. I remember setting out good action plans but never implementing them, I was so excited and energetic to achieve them, but I lacked to discipline to work it.

Must-do’s When You Formulate Your Strategy

Set deadlines when you write your goals! Stop re-reading your plans! Just take action. When you do this, you build momentum and will start to get moving.

Do not forget manage your resources and formulate logical steps in executing your project. It will involve some planning and patience! But the rewards are there.

Time to Get Results- Executing Your Plan!

Noticing your strengths and weaknesses and mental contradictions will allow you to execute your plan easily. Your personal aims should be written down in CONCRETE ACTIONS! It’s time to develop your own special strategy to reach what you envision.

Remember setting your short-term goals and long-term goals? Now it’s time to create a short-term plan!

Create your plan for tomorrow, next week, and for the month, then for the year.

Your personal plan for the short term will manifest the limitations for the day or week. You will need to balance your tasks carefully, thinking of your available resources.

Get started now, here are simple steps for you to create your action plan!

Get a calendar- First, write down important dates on the calendar for the year. Don’t go into the micro-tasks yet. Just list the major tasks on the calendar. Do you have any important appointments? Anything due on these dates (Electricity Bills, Projects etc)? Place your calendar in your workplace so that you can see it all the time.

Use PDA- Use Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to avoid the hassle of turning pages or writing it with pens. It will definitely come in useful to keep track of important dates and schedules. This helps to constantly remind you of the tasks you need to complete. Your PDA also helps you locate your data easily and is better at creating organized timetables and goal projections.

Now it is time to insert your daily tasks and weekly tasks in your PDA to achieve your goals! If you set your goal to lose 40 lbs for the year, what steps will you take to achieve this goal?

Your plan for this week could involve signing up for your local fitness centre, or getting fitness books. This small step will build momentum for you to start losing those 40 lbs you were aiming for! Apply this to any of your goals.

Insert your micro-tasks you need to complete! Do this every week, and make sure you complete the highest payoff activities first. Use this tool efficiently and you will never have problems managing your schedule.

Importance of a To do list- Follow your to do list strictly. A day before you can write the agenda for the next day. The next thing is to insert the steps you need to take in to your PDA!

Final Tip

Your strategy should be as simple as possible. Focus on the most effective tasks. When you create a ‘to do list’, you will find that prioritizing your top priority tasks with ‘A’ will tell you what are the important things for the day. ‘C’ tasks should be left to the last. By completing all your ‘A’ tasks you are in fact being more productive. This keeps things simple. Your whole long list of to-do’s will not help you do much. Prioritize it with A, B and C. By doing this, you will be focusing on the most effective tasks. So remember to rank the importance of each task!

Also, when you create a calendar of activities or time frame, try not to include irrelevant agenda. These unnecessary tasks add more variables in your calendar, making it look more crammed and complicated. Keep things simple!
