Effective Goal Setting Tips

Tips on How to Achieve ANY Goal You Desire

Home » Personal Goal Setting » Effective Goal Setting

What do you want to achieve in life? What do you want exactly?

If you don't go about setting goals in the right way, the goals themselves might end up unattainable.

Here are a few effective goal setting tips that should help you achieve your goals.

Setting a goal is similar to defining a problem, and when a problem is well defined, finding the solution often comes much easier.

Define your goal correctly and precisely

Your first big step in reaching a goal is accurately defining it. Use the right words in setting a goal, you'll make achieving the goal much easier.

Write it down. Personal success expert Brian Tracy recommends using the present tense when writing out your goal.

Instead of writing “I am going to make $20,000 per month”, “I am making $20,000 per month”.

Make certain your goal is realistic

If you're a couch potato , and you set a goal of running a 4-minute mile within 1 month, that’s unrealistic.

You'd be better off creating a realistic plan. A realistic plan might be doing the mile in 20 minutes in 3 months first.

That's not failure, it’s a way of getting closer to your goal. It's OK to aim a little high, as long as you set realistic plans to achieve them.

Define the general approach you want to take. Think outside the box

Sometimes it’s best not to think too seriously in achieving your goals.

Unleash your creative side!

Think creatively to achieve your goals, maybe even goofy thoughts.

Thinking of goofy strategies may seem completely out of place when you have a serious goal in mind, but by letting your ideas flow out freely, you might find a far better approach to achieving your goal than conventional wisdom would allow.

Have a plan

After brainstorming ideas choose the best one and put it out in an organized plan. In your plan, set intermediate milestones. Use these milestones to track your progress towards your goals.

Compare your actual progress with your action plan.

Ask yourself every week, “how well am I sticking to my plan?”

Identify potential people who can help

Many goals can be achieved on your own.

But you don't have complete control over everything. This is where you need to seek help and guidance from people who have achieved the goal you want to achieve.

When setting your goals, ask yourself if you need a mentor, a personal instructor, or just a support network consisting of a few close friends.

In order to achieve something, you need to surround yourself with bright people. And most importantly, be willing to learn!

It's humbling, but you'll learn a lot as to what you need to be doing to reach your goal.

Keep a journal

If the goal is an important one, keep notes on how things are progressing, or not progressing, along the way.

So when setting a goal, define it clearly, make certain it's the right one. Make sure it's realistic. Brainstorm your approach, put together a plan, get help if needed, and keep a journal.

That’s it for now, it’s time for you to take action on these effective goal setting techniques.
