8 Reasons Why People Experience Failure To Achieve Goals

Have you notice most motivational or financial books emphasize the importance of goal setting?

To obtain financial freedom or live the healthy lifestyle that everybody longs, people set goals and get results.

For some people, they set goals, but nothing happens. Why is this so? Here is a list of reasons why people fail to achieve their goals.

Reasons why people fail to achieve goals

1. Frustration

2. Too much planning

3. Getting discouraged

4. Not giving a deadline to their goals

5. Lack of enthusiasm

6. Unsupportive People

7. Too vague in their approach

8. Lack of commitment

How To Deal With These 8 Problems

Problem #1 Dealing With Frustration

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” - Robert F. Kennedy:

Sometimes you work hard trying to achieve your goal and all goes well. But sometimes it is frustrating especially when failures start to enter into the picture. The solution for dealing with this problem is that you should stop indulging in low-motivational factors such as frustration, low-self esteem, confusion, and anxiety. Instead, divert your attention to how you can benefit from your failures.

Make your goals encouraging. Your strengths and weaknesses should be reflected when you set your goals. These aims should also be realistic and should be based on your immediate concerns. So not achieving your goal is not failing, giving up is.

Problem #2 Just start taking action!

“Never confuse motion with action.” - Benjamin Franklin

Too much planning and talking can be counter-productive. These two things are the easiest to do, you need to realize what actually helps you achieve your goal is taking action. Action is acting upon your goals and NOT keeping yourself busy. Keeping busy on unproductive tasks is an utter waste of time. Focus on the most important things if you want to get results.

Problem #3 Keep pushing yourself until you achieve your goal

First find out what is causing you to be discouraged. Then deal with it! This may sound cliché but as Thomas Edison said “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety nine percent perspiration.” You have to keep pushing on. This may sound simple but how many people push through hard times? It is easier to give up than persevere through difficult situations.

Problem #4 Setting deadlines

Start setting deadlines so you get things done! This puts a sense of urgency and we will tend to get things done.

Problem #5 Don’t lose enthusiasm

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” -Winston Churchill:

As mentioned above, the only time you fail is when you give up trying to achieve your goal. If you have followed the goal setting steps outlined in the previous articles, you will know that breaking up your difficult or complicated goals into small easy doable chunks is important. When you do this your plan for your goals becomes a ‘checklist’. What happens when you start completing these mini-tasks? You build momentum. When you fail to achieve your goal, it is merely not completing these mini-tasks. Complete your mini-tasks one by one, you will find yourself reaching your goal in no time.

Goals should also be set according to the proper way to adjust in case you do not meet your expectations. If you’re not able to reach what you initially desired for the first time, try looking at your aim and modify it.

Don’t get frustrated when unforeseen circumstances ariseFor example, you work extremely hard to buy that sports car you always dreamed of. However, at an unexpected time of the year, you learned that you need to spend your money on an unexpected expenditure like an increased payment for the amortization of your housing loan. In order to veer away from frustration, what you can do is either delay the buying of your car until you can save the right amount or buy a car with whatever money you have left.

At this point, don’t let frustration make you feel terrible because you did not achieve the results you desired. If you would take a loan to finance your car, just imagine the additional money you have to earn to pay all your bills. This would only derail you from your initial agenda. Don’t aim for short term results, think long-term.

Problem #6 People who don’t support your goals

Take a step back and assess the situation. See whether it was you who have caused that person to make improper judgment about your goals. After that you can take appropriate actions to deal with the situation. Sometimes your goals are just not in line with other people’s goals, so they will try to drag you to another direction. So just remember to take your time to assess the situation, and see whether you should take heed in their advice or ignore them totally. You can read the article on dealing with difficult people.

Problem #7 Know your destination

Distraction falls in when you don’t know where you’re headed. You will definitely get distracted by short-term results. If you can’t visualize your goal, you don’t know where your destination lies. You will find yourself changing course often before you can even reach your goal. So it is important to have a clear vision of your goal, take time to visualize your goal.

Problem #8 Lack of commitment

Most people don’t commit to their goal fully because of limiting beliefs. Eliminate your limiting beliefs and just get going. If you only give a little effort, you will get little results. Give your full focus and energy when it comes to attaining your goals. This is why it’s so important to aim high and set deadlines for your goals!
