Is clutter building up at home or at work? Clear the clutter by following the following tips and get organized by today!

By Mary Frederick

Though we tell ourselves we won’t let our junk accumulate, it happens.

Even with the best intention or with the mindset that we will stay on top of things this time, it can quickly get out of control.

So once the clutter builds up, how do we get started? What is the most effective way to get rid of clutter?

Of course the best way to contend with clutter is to prevent it from ever happening.

We’re human though, and with busy schedules and never enough time in the day to complete all of our tasks, it just happens. If you are like so many other people and you’ve been a victim and culprit of clutter, then here are some simple but effective ways to get rid of the clutter that you’ve accumulated.

Start with the Worst Areas

Many people tend to accumulate the most clutter in their garage or basement.

The reason being that this is an easy place to throw things that you will deal with “later”.

These also happen to be areas of your home that not a lot of people tend to see, so it’s no wonder that we throw all of our junk into these remote locations.

Though it’s easy to look back in retrospect and tell yourself that you will never let it get to this point again, you have to first deal with the situation in front of you.

Start your “declutter” process by dealing with the awful and sometimes hideous areas of your home.

This may seem like a mammoth task, and it may very well be. However if you get rid of clutter in the worst areas (or areas that contain the most clutter) of the house first, then the rest will seem quite simple.

Once you see how great that area looks after you spend time getting rid of the clutter, you can move onto other areas of the house with a newfound appreciation for organization.

Sell or Donate the Sources of Your Clutter

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

So once you’ve taken the time to get rid of the clutter, you need somewhere to put it—and that doesn’t mean in a different room of your home.

You can either make a profit or feel good about getting rid of some of the very sources of your clutter, and this will also ensure that it gets out of your house for good.

Consider holding a garage sale, or even try to sell some of your previous clutter items online.

You can even donate some of the items you’ve removed, because chances are that somebody may have a use for it.

Unless the clutter that you’re getting rid of is really junky, there may be somebody else out there that wants the items that you are getting rid of.

So not only can you ensure that the clutter items get out of your house once and for all, but you can see to it that somebody else puts them to good use in the process.

Enlist the Help of Organization Tools

Chances are that some of the clutter that you’re getting rid of may include items that you plan to keep.

Even if you just want to do your part to ensure that clutter never takes over your household again, it can be quite helpful to enlist the help of some handy organization tools.

This is where shelving, racks, baskets, and other organization tools can come in handy.

If you want to organize the items that you have or simply want to get rid of clutter as a problem in your home, learn to utilize some organization tools.

This can help you to keep on task and to help you find a place for everything. Not only can this help to prevent you accumulating clutter in the future, but it can get rid of it in the here and now.
