Getting House Organized - Part 1

Outline for Part 1- Getting House Organized

1. Living Room

2. Kitchen

3. Bedroom

4. Floor

5. Wardrobes

Start With The Living Room

Start with the tables- Make sure only decorations like flowers are the only things that stay there permanently. Whatever things that are not used on a regular basis like newspapers and magazines should not be kept there!

Organize Your Kitchen

Frequently used areas should always be kept clear! Reserve a space where it should be kept clutter free all the time. Reserve a space solely for your preparation of food and drinks.

Take these five simple steps to organize your kitchen:

• Take everything out from the shelves and wipe the dust, give the internal parts of your kitchen a whole new look!
• Group all the same type of items together. And throw anything you have not used for more than a year (chances of using those items are unlikely).
• Look for old plastic containers that have turned old or damaged, but not thrown away yet. Ask yourself are you even going to use those old containers? If not, dispose it.
• Make sure anything that has been kept in unreachable areas. This may include to top of the refrigerator. Try and put a nice decoration on the top of the refrigerator to avoid placing anything on the surface in the future.
• Any expired spices or herbs? Throw it all away!

Organize Your Bedroom

Put things where it belongs and make sure things that are not supposed to be on your desk/shelves goes back into its own place.

Start by clearing anything lying around like dirty laundry etc.

Clear Clutter From Your Floor!

If there is a lack of space in cupboards or shelves, it could be the cause of clutter on the floor. CDs, DVDs, old magazines on the floor could have been placed in a shelf. Tackle the root of the problem by organizing your shelves and cupboards. After doing this take everything off the floor!

Just a side note: Cluttered floors can be a source of stress.

Organize Your Wardrobe

Do you have any clothes that you have not worn for more than a year or two? Give them away. Sometimes we tend to keep expensive clothes that we don’t wear, this will only contribute to clutter.

Organize your wardrobe right now, have sections for each specific design. Same types of clothes go into the same section!

Getting House Organized - Part 2

Outline for Part 2- Getting House Organized

1. Attic

2. Storerooms

3. Bathroom

4. Garage

Part 2 of the 'getting house organized' article will show you how to optimize the small spaces in your home.

Utilize The Space In Your Attic!

Why cram this space up? What are you going to do with all the space up there? Most attics are either filled with old things or totally unused. Utilize attic space for keeping things that you frequently use instead of keeping old things that you will not use.

If you leave things up in the attic for years, it might as well be disposed or given away. Don’t waste your precious attic space, even if it is a small area.

Storerooms Are Not For Storing Junk!

If you don’t have an attic, don’t use your storeroom to store junk. Like the attic, store things that you would use regularly and keep your storeroom tidy. Every space in the house can be fully utilized.

In your storeroom, set up labels for certain things. Having a saw, screwdrivers, and board games together with your ski board is a bad system. Categorize each section of the storeroom. In the future, place things in their respective category, if it doesn’t have one, create a new category.

The Bathroom

This is the last place you should neglect because no other part of the house is used so frequently. It’s important to keep your bathroom hygienic at all times. So start cleaning every area.

Don’t be afraid to decorate like placing plants in your bathroom. It will give you a whole new fresh feeling

Make Your Garage More Spacious!

Again, similar to organizing your attic or storeroom, don’t place junk in your garage. Keep it neat and tidy. Maximize the walking space by placing things on the wall.

That’s about it. The last step you need to do is to be consistent with your new system. For instance, place all things into their respective category which you created for your shelves. If you created a category ‘Fitness Books’ on your shelf, then only place fitness books there. Be consistent with your new system, and you’ll always be organized!
