Goal Setting for the Busy Mom

Home » Goals » Goal Setting for Moms

By Mary M. Frederick

Anything in life worth obtaining usually requires a bit of goal setting . If you want to get to the end result, you normally have to carve out a path for yourself and see it through to the end.

Setting a goal or objective can be an important part of parenthood, particularly for the busy mom.

As a mom, there are so many things to do and so many different directions that you can feel pulled at sometimes. You feel as if your time is not your own anymore, yet you have far more responsibilities than you ever faced in your life.

To be successful, whether you are a working mom or a stay-at-home mom, you need to establish what you are trying to achieve and then visualize it to the end.

Goal setting can make the busy mom feel far more productive and can ensure that you get to your end result of what you wish to accomplish. Here are some tips that can make your goal setting much easier and more effective:

Start Small

Break down a given task into small pieces. Whether it’s cleaning your house from top to bottom or losing some weight, you’ve got to start with small milestones along the way that are very achievable.

If you feel overwhelmed or as if the end goal is out of reach, you are sure to get frustrated and eventually give up. Start small and keep the initial goal within your grasp so that you are inspired and motivated to keep going.

Measure Your Progress Along the Way

It can help to set yourself up with some sort of milestones along your path to your ultimate goal. That way you can take a step back and see where you’re at, and perhaps even reprioritize if necessary. This can result in a renewal of faith in your end goal and demonstrate that the hard work you are putting in is really paying off.

Share Your Goals with Somebody Close to You

It can be really helpful to talk to somebody that you know and trust when it comes to reaching your goals. If it’s something that could lend way to a group activity like sticking to a fitness program, you may even find a friend that can work towards your goal with you.

It may be very helpful to share your highs and lows of your path to reach your goal with somebody that is close to you so that you can have that outlet when you need it.

Stay Positive

Everything worth achieving may have a setback at times, so don’t give up. Though you may be frustrated if you experience an obstacle and though it may sometimes feel as though your role of busy mom interferes with your ability to reach your goal, stay strong and be positive.

A positive attitude can truly go a long way and if you keep focused on your goal and maintain an optimism about you, you are much more likely to get to the result you want.

Reward Yourself

You’re a busy mom, you’re moving in many different directions at any one moment. So when you’ve had a day or week where you’ve mastered the rewarding but demanding role of busy mom and managed to reach your goal, large or small, then you need to reward that.

When you reach your goals, you need to give yourself something back. Even if it’s just scheduling a little bit of “me time”, a reward can go a long way towards the achievement of your biggest dreams and goals.
