Setting goals will help you accomplish anything you want in life only if you take action on your plan! This section will help you design your life plan.

Before you follow the goal setting steps, ask yourself these 3 questions:

• Will your goals, long-term and short-term give you the enthusiasm to work hard until you reach your dreams?
• Is it in line with your values, personality, and your vision?
• Is it what you really envision yourself in the future?

The goal setting steps will show you how to create goals which help in enervating your moves. This is important to keep you highly motivated in the course of achieving what you want!

Be SMART

While following the goal setting steps, keep these major factors in mind. Set SMART goals . Make your goals:

• Specific
• measurable
• attainable
• realistic
• time-bound

What You Must Do To Make Your Goals Doable

Breaking your goals down into chunks is important, it makes it more doable. Take for example, try to remember this number 323525998. Now do it again be breaking it into three chunks.

If you can break it apart, it will look like this 323, 525, 998. Can you see that it immediately looks easier to remember? And it is easier to remember.

If you break it into chunks, wouldn’t it look more doable, and easier to complete? You will definitely achieve your goals easily by applying this technique. As you continue reading the later section of this article will give you the exact goal setting steps you can take.

Should You Aim High?

This is absolutely critical because it automatically gives you an energy boost! Although choosing goals that are you passions already provide you some excitement, setting radical goals will give you extra energy to achieve it.

By aiming high, you need to apply the technique of breaking down your goals which was explained in the goal setting steps above.

In each of the 6 areas below, write down what you want to achieve.

For those who don’t know what they want, here is an easy way to find out what you really want. Imagine you could achieve ANYTHING you want and you cannot fail, what would it be? Set these goals in the following areas:

1. Family and Friends

2. Financial and Wealth lifestyle

3. Spiritual

4. Health and Physical

5. Social/ Contribution

6. Educational and Career

Remember this is the ultimate goal in your life, whether you are planning to achieve it in 10 years time or 20 years time, this is the goal that you really want to achieve.

Are you ready? Spend 20 minutes on this exercise and just write what you really want to achieve! Erase your mind of thinking of any possibilities of failure.

The SUREFIRE way to achieve anything you want!

Write down the steps you will take to achieve that ultimate goal. If you want to achieve an ideal weight, say 120 lbs (assuming this is your ideal weight), work towards it by setting short-term goals.

(Just for example purposes, I will use a weight loss example because it is easier to illustrate with numbers)

So if you weigh 300 lbs and want to achieve the ideal weight (Your Ultimate Goal) of 120 lbs, what is your one year goal to reach that ultimate goal of weighing 120 lbs?You could set your goal to weigh 220 lbs this year. As you do this, you are reaching closer to your goal of weighing 120 lbs.

Can you see it is achievable? Now this is not your ultimate goal yet, and this is why you need to…

Creating The Path for Your Ultimate Goal

So remember the example above of your ultimate goal (i.e. reaching the ideal weight of 120lbs)? As mentioned above setting your one year goal of weighing 240lbs is your ‘milestone’. After this, set another goal for the next year, maybe you would want to weigh 180 lbs, then the following year you would weight 120 lbs. Now can you see you would have finally reached your ULTIMATE goal?

So how long did it take? Let’s break it down.

ULTIMATE Goal: Reach an ideal weight of 120lbs

• Current situation: weigh 300 lbs
• First year goal: Weigh 220 lbs
• Second year goal: Weigh 160 lbs
Third Year Goal: Weigh 120 lbs

So you can see that to reach your ultimate goal of obtaining an ideal weight of 120 lbs (just an assumption), you have set your path of achieving the ultimate goal of 120lbs by the third year.

Now you are clear on the power of these goal setting steps, you now know breaking it into several steps makes it look more obtainable. Start setting milestones. It can take one year, three years or fifteen years, break it down like the example given above.

What Have You Done?

You have created focus. Now each year you have a focus on what to do to achieve your goals. The weight loss example above shows you that to weigh 220 lbs, you need to lose 80 lbs.

So in your first year, you have something to focus on. You only need to lay out your own unique plan and strategy to achieve your goals.

Your Roadmap to Your Ultimate Goal

Now it’s time to set your roadmap by creating a unique plan and strategy. So how are you going to achieve the short-term goal?

After designing your path to your ultimate goal, as shown in the earlier section, it looked like this:

ULTIMATE Goal: Aiming for an ideal weight of 120lbs

• Current situation: weigh 300 lbs
• First year goal: Weigh 220 lbs
• Second year goal: Weigh 160 lbs
Third Year Goal: Reached Your Goal of Weighing 120 lbs

This is a vital step, as you are planning for your future. But the next step is equally important, focusing on the present. As mentioned above, you have created focus as you know you need to lose 80 lbs. But what’s your unique plan and strategy to achieve this?

Focusing on The Present Situation

Lay it out on paper! Write your plan down as detail as you can. The clearer your plans are, the more effective the outcome. It will help you focus on the present situation, and give you direction on what actions to take to achieve your ultimate goal.

Instead of writing ‘exercise to lose weight’, go into the details like ‘work-out at gym for 40 minutes 4 times per week’.

Put it down in writing and make sure you follow that plan. Don’t keep your goals at the top of your head. If you are not comfortable having papers to look at, you can get goal setting software to help you achieve your goals.

Writing your plans also allows you to review it. When you need to change it, you can do so. But an important thing to remember is that you should not perceive this as a failure. Sometimes circumstances change and we need to adapt to it.

Start now, start by writing the first plan as explained in these goal setting steps. When you do this, you are building momentum to reach your goals because you already took the first step of following these goal setting steps! Build momentum at this moment and you will find yourself achieving your goals!
