Importance of Setting Life Goals

Home » Goal Setting » How to Set Life Goals

Have you heard about the interesting study that was conducted on graduates of a university?

Results showed that students who set goals for themselves achieved far more success in their own fields as compared to the other students who were not asked to set goals for themselves after graduating.

As you may already know, setting life goals is the first step to achieving success. It's just like a roadmap that will tell us if we've reached our destination. The trouble is that most people know how to set goals and yet, they don't do it because they are afraid of experiencing guilt and disappointment if they do not achieve what they want to.

So knowing this...Why is it important to set life goals?

You will stay focused

When you set an empowering goal that motivates you, you'll find yourself having the energy and focus you can never imagine. The things that you do will be organized, you will be far more productive and effective in what you are doing and you'll start becoming the best in what you do.

The funny thing is that the moment we have a target to reach, our mind and body will find a way to manifest that into reality.

Realize that it's only a matter of time and strategy before we will achieve them. Again, the trouble is that most people do not keep at it long enough to see the returns.

You will be inspired and motivated

For example, if you are the type of person who gets bored over doing repetitive tasks in your job, having a goal can help you be motivated.

Using a real life example, a very good friend of mine who was tired of her job, and knowing that I'm in the personal development field, she asked for my advice on how she can revive her passion for her work. After a series of questioning to understand her situation better, I realized what was wrong.

Due to her hectic schedule, she had long 'forgotten' what she wanted to achieve out of her work. So suggested that she set a few short term goals.

After a week, I received a short email from her thanking my advice.

You will find direction

Like what I've said, life is like a journey and we need a map to guide us to our destination. With this map, we have a sense of direction and it will help us make wiser decisions.

Setting and moving towards your goal gives you happiness

Chasing and moving towards your dreams boosts your self-esteem. Once you've reached your life goals, you will experience satisfaction, happiness and successful.

Remember, whether it is setting short-term goals or long-term ones, it is important to set it nevertheless. It's like the fuel to a car that will drive you towards your goals.
