Mary Frederick We’re all pressed for time and have far too much to fit into our daily and weekly schedules. With appointments, meetings, events, and all sorts of other engagements, it can all become a bit chaotic at times. However there are some instances where if you don’t make time to take care of something, it can quickly get out of control. One such task is organizing clutter. We all have clutter in spite of our best efforts. The key however is to stay on top of it to ensure that it doesn’t get out of control—and that can happen rather quickly. Though it’s not a favorite task within any household, it’s something that has to be done. Making time to organize clutter on a regular basis can save you far more time spent later on! So here are some helpful tips as to how you can find time to keep on top of your clutter, and to keep it organized. Do Your Best to Avoid ClutterThough we all tend to accumulate a pile here and there, there are ways to prevent this from turning into full fledged clutter. The key is to stay on top of the very things that turn into clutter in the first place. As you get your mail each day, do your best to go through it and put it into the appropriate places. If you feel as though you get overrun with newspapers or circulars each week, then take the time to skim through them as you get them. The best way to avoid clutter is to keep on top of items as you get them. Though this may be easier at some times than others, it’s a surefire way to keep your clutter to a minimum in the first place. Schedule Time to Organize Clutter Each WeekJust as you handle any other task within the house on a weekly basis, be sure to include organizing your clutter as one of them. You take out the trash each week at a certain time. You do the grocery shopping on a designated day each week. So use the same mentality and philosophy to organize your clutter. If you have to schedule it as an actual appointment on your calendar each week, then do it if it will ensure that you actually get to it. Though organizing clutter can quickly be put to the back burner, it’s far less likely to happen that way if you keep up with it on a regular basis. Schedule the time as any other weekly task, and then be sure to keep that appointment. Learn from Past MistakesIf you’ve ever let your clutter get out of control, which we are all guilty of at one time or another, then learn from this. Think of how much time you had to spend organizing a room or area that you let get overrun with clutter. If you would have kept up with that along the way, it would have been a far easier and less time consuming task. Learn from that past behavior and do your part to keep on top of the clutter as it comes in. Making time for the clutter organization can be the hardest part, but if you think back to the time it took you after things got really bad then it can help to keep you motivated. Just as you would schedule time for any other task or activity in your life, it’s important to do so with your clutter organization. If you can keep on task and schedule your time accordingly each week, then clutter will never run your life or your house again. « Return to Clutter Control Tips from Find Time to Organize Clutter
