5. A Powerful Technique to Get Organized

Are you as organized as you wish to be? Do you get stressed and procrastinate often because of your messy and cluttered environment?

Apply the five tips on how to organize your life below- if you wish to get more work done, get more free time and experience less stress in your life.

Your ‘Small’ Habits Make a Difference

The environment or place you work in is messy, not because you were born messy, but because of your daily actions that caused it to be messy.

It’s taking one thing, and not putting it back.

It’s receiving new stuff, and not filing them in the appropriate place.

Your little decisions and actions are causing your whole environment to get cluttered. Resolve the matter today by having a rule- always put things back to where it belongs.

Allocate a Fixed Position for All Your Items

Even if you have established great habits to organize your life, there will come to a point when the sheer number of things and clutter can overwhelm you especially in this era.

Learn how to organize office files and organize your things. Also, always make it a point to have nothing on the surface of the floor, you might not be aware, but a cluttered environment affects your work productivity and it acts as a source of stress.

Keep Your Desk Free from Clutter

Your desk will be the most important place for work. Thus you must learn how to keep your desk empty at all times.

To work more efficiently, do not have ANYTHING on the surface on the desk when you work.

Try putting them in drawers or partitions so that it is not in sight, but always within reach when you need them (so that you don’t waste time looking for things when you need them).

You will be amazed at how much more things you get done and how much focus you gain during your work when you have a clear desk, working with just the things you need.

Where’s the plan?

Can you imagine a house built without architects? There would be no designs or plans to work from. The builders can’t simply start placing bricks and start building a house without a plan.

It’s the same concept.

How can you construct an organized environment without a plan? It will be disorganized.

Start listing down categories for all the things you have.

It won’t take long, it’s actually simple and quick. Just make a short list, like the example given below:

• Books
• Documents
• Mails
• Bags
• Papers

Start having a list of categories for your things that you see around your environment that’s contributing to the clutter. How can you put them into categories?

Later on, assign a place for each category, this will really help you organize your life in the long term.

A powerful Technique to Get Organized

Visualize an organized person, close your eyes and visualize this for 10 seconds. Now look around the place you work and think about whether an organized person would be working in a place like this. This visualization technique is powerful to ‘measure’ how organized you are.

If an organized person wouldn’t be working in an environment you are in, how would it be? Visualize this again. This powerful technique will allow you to create a mental picture of how your environment should be.

Now start organizing your environment according to how you envisioned it.
