Home » Goal Setting » Steps for Setting Personal Goals

This section will help you design your life plan.

These steps for setting personal goals will show you how to create goals and achieve them.

Step 1: Set SMART Goals

Set SMART goals. Make sure your goals are:

• Specific
• measurable
• attainable
• realistic
• time-bound

Step 2: Put Your Goals in Writing

In each of the 6 areas below, write down what you want to achieve.

For those who don’t know what they want, here is an easy way to find out what you really want. Imagine you could achieve ANYTHING you want and you cannot fail, what would it be? Write these goals in the following areas:

1. Family and Friends
2. Financial and Wealth lifestyle
3. Spiritual
4. Health and Physical
5. Social/ Contribution
6. Educational and Career

Remember this is the ultimate goal in your life, whether you are planning to achieve it in 10 years time or 20 years time, this is the goal that you really want to achieve.

Are you ready? Spend 20 minutes on this exercise and just write what you really want to achieve! Erase your mind of thinking of any possibilities of failure.

Step 3: Divide Your Goal into Small Parts

Read these numbers 323525998, and remember them. Now close your eyes and say the number out loud. Could you remember it?

Now do it again be breaking it into three parts. It will look like this 323, 525, 998. Can you see that it immediately looks easier to remember? And it is easier to remember. Try remembering the numbers in 3 separate parts and say it out loud again.

By using this technique for your goals, any goal you set will become more doable!

Step 4: Create Milestones

In step 3 you broke your goal into small parts, now write down milestones for your goals.
