Boost your personal productivity and boost your business profits! Here are time management tips for you to get MORE out of your day! |
By Mac Cassity You have probably heard the saying before TIME IS MONEY and for an entrepreneur, this rings loud and clear. If you own your own business, then you have no one to depend on for your income but yourself. Surely you could have employees to help share some of the load, but if they decide not to show then the burden falls on you and no one else. This is why time management for entrepreneurs is so incredibly important. Making sure your day is productive from beginning to end will not only help you increase your bottom line, it will also help save your sanity. Working in a disorganized state can leave you feeling unproductive and stressed at all times, while operating from a flowing and organized plan can often mean more money, more time to spend with your family and loved ones, and more enjoyment of the work that you do. Below are tried and proven time management tips for entrepreneurs: 1. Plan your day BEFORE your day- The time to plan your day's activities is not when you sit down to work in the morning. Instead, plan each of the following day’s events the night before and your day will be much more productive. If you start thinking about what you have to do first thing in the morning, you get bombarded with phone calls and other activities and truly planning your day won't be finished until about lunchtime. 2. Make your goals realistic- Sure, everyone wants to tackle huge tasks each and every day, but the fact is, unrealistic goals do nothing but make you feel more overwhelmed. Focus on tasks that you know you can complete within a day’s time and as you get more productive, simply add tasks to your to do list 3. Have your resources in place before you need them- The time to realize you need printer ink is NOT when you have to print out a 100 page report…in COLOR. Make sure that you keep the inventory of equipment you'll need on any given day up to date so you never have to reach for something that is not there. Stopping your day to run to the office supply store will greatly eat in to the time that you have to complete your tasks and will help to throw your entire schedule off. 4. Develop systems, and work to improve them- A flowing and organized office should consist of a series of systems that are designed to help each work task get completed in a timely and efficient manner. Your systems should be written down either on paper or in a file that other employees can get to on your computer. A system that can be duplicated is valuable so that if you are not there, then tasks can still be carried out. If the system only exists in your head, it is only valuable to your business if you are the one doing the work. 5. Follow your schedule- Finally, it is extremely important to follow the schedule that you have set for yourself. Many times we want to move things around to accommodate last-minute appointments or lunch dates but this oftentimes does more harm than good. Learn to stick to your schedule and tell others when you are busy. You can always schedule another appointment at a later date when you are free but continuing to break up the schedule that you made for yourself will surely lead to unproductive days and again add to your stress factor. If you make a commitment to follow the time management tips above, you can become much more effective and much more profitable at whatever it is that you do. Time management for entrepreneurs is perhaps one of the most important assets you can acquire. We only have so much time in a day; it is up to you to use your time wisely.
