Time Savers to Help You Find More Time in Your Day

Home » Tips » Time Savers

Are you constantly looking for more time in your day?

You have to stop doing low-value activities before you can find more time. The time management tips below can help you find more time in your day.

Make use of a master list

Focus only on the important tasks in your day- put it all on a master list. Keep a master list handy. Your master list should include all important activities which you need to complete for this week.

Just use a blank notepad as your master list.

Then apply the prioritization method as suggested below.

A prioritized master list which will save you hours of your time on low-yield activities.

Hone your prioritization skills

STEP 1: Assign values based on importance
Have you written down ALL the activities you must complete this week? Good. Now assign a value to each of them on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest value activity, and 1 for low-yield activities.

STEP 2: Prioritize and arrange
Then rearrange the activities in order, with 10 at the top and 1 at the bottom. From today, discipline yourself to complete tasks with the highest value first before moving on to lower value activities.

Note: It’s always tempting to settle the low-yield activities first because they are easier, but you’re smart enough to not fall for this trap. Tackle high value projects first, like completing your work instead of chatting with your colleagues.

For more prioritization techniques, read the other section of this website on prioritizing skills.

Organize your work environment

You will find yourself working more efficiently with an uncluttered desk. You’ll be surprised how much more energy and focus you can gain just by working in an organized environment.

Avoid perfectionism

Perfectionism is the biggest problem- especially on unimportant tasks! Don’t spend time perfecting time-wasting activities. Know your priorities. (Hint: Review your prioritized master list, have you created it yet?)

Track Time

If you think tracking your time is a waste of time, think again. The simple act of tracking your time allows you to see how you spend your time the whole day.

You can eliminate time wasting activities or just see how addicted you are to social networking sites and other online or offline distractions. So track your activities for a week, preferably recording what you do every half hour interval.

Get Active

Another time saver is exercise.

Exercising increases your alertness, thus increasing your work performance. Get motivation to exercise!

How to Get Powerful Sleep

Your concentration levels and alertness during the day are going to be low if you don’t take the effort to get good sleep. Exercising helps with better sleep. For more tips you can read how to sleep better. Apply these time savers and without a shadow of doubt you’ll find your day more productive.
